There are two distinct academic calendars for the MPA program formats. Students should be aware of the differences in the academic calendar for course schedules. In addition, University processes such as Financial Aid operates on the University academic calendar regardless of the online academic calendar. Students must be clear on the different deadlines for each format.
The specialized concentrations online format has three sessions in one calendar year. Each session has two 8-week terms.
The on campus MPA format follows the University Academic Calendar of three semesters per calendar year, but MPA graduate classes are mostly held in the Fall and Spring semesters. This is a cohort-style program, and students may only take 2 MPA courses per semester for a total of 6 units of graduate study. The program takes 3 years to complete and consists of 6 semesters of study (Fall & Spring with 1 Summer semester).
In addition, students who want to take concentration courses from the three specialized concentrations may do so and will be placed in the public management concentration.

MPA Roadmaps are designed to give students the most direct route to graduation. Just like the schedules, your roadmap will vary based on your modality, concentration, and the session in which you start.

*The MPA program may enforce limits on the number of units for which a student can register during each registration period. Effective Fall 2019, graduate students are not to exceed 9 units of study in any given session.
