Admission

Admission to the MPA program is a two-step process as applicants must first meet the University requirements in addition to the Program requirements.

Minimum CSUDH Admission Requirements

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.听
    Must be in good standing at the last institution attended.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 either cumulatively or in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units.
  • International Applicants Only: Attain a minimum score of 550 paper-based, 213 CBT or 80 IBT on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test OR attain a minimum score of 6.5 overall on the International English Testing System (IELTS) test. The TOEFL or the ILETS is required for all applicants who have received all, or a significant portion, of their education in a language other than English.听Applicants seeking a waiver of the TOEFL or IELTS exam can contact the Office of American Language & Culture Program at 310.243.3830 or email at听alcp@csudh.edu.听

Regardless of citizenship, all applicants whose native language is not English and who do not qualify for a waiver are required to submit proof of English Language Proficiency before an admissions decision can be made. International applicants must submit:

  1. Certified English translations of non-English transcripts must be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records.听Students from foreign institutions must have their transcripts evaluated by a听NACES听agency, such as听WES, and submit a course-by-course evaluation.
  2. TOEFL/IELTS score (if required) must be sent directly from the appropriate testing organization to the Office of Admissions and Records. Graduate applicants who have not attended schools at the secondary level or above for at least three years full-time where English is the principle language of instruction must present one of the following:
    1. A minimum score of 80 on the internet-based TOEFL exam (iBT),
    2. A minimum score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL exam
    3. A score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test, or
    4. A score of 105 or higher on the Duolingo English Test (DET). The MA in English program requires a minimum score of 120
    5. A score of 53 or higher on the听Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic

Additional MPA听Department Admission Requirements

  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) upper division units OR 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Statement of Purpose detailing your background, career path, professional interests, and how you plan to use your MPA degree.
  • If applicant's GPA falls below the minimum requirements, two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references are required.听
