Unit 11 – Academic Student Employees (ASE)

Unit 11 represents Academic Student Employees (ASEs) within the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú (CSU) system. ASEs are student employees who play a vital role in supporting the academic mission of the university through teaching, tutoring, grading, and instructional support.

Common Unit 11 classifications include:

  • Teaching Associates (TAs)
  • Graduate Assistants (GAs)
  • Instructional Student Assistants (ISAs)

To qualify for Unit 11 employment, individuals must:

  • Be admitted and enrolled in a CSU program
  • Maintain the required academic standing
  • Meet unit load or enrollment requirements (as applicable)

Duties vary by classification and department but are intended to align with students’ academic and professional development.
