Showcase Your Skills with Digital Credentials from CSUDH

Build career-ready skills and earn recognized credentials—without the hassle of university admission.

Growing your career skills is one of the most effective ways to invest in your future. When you take the initiative to expand your expertise, you’re not only building confidence—you’re demonstrating a commitment to growth that sets you apart in a competitive job market.

The College of Continuing & Professional Education (CCPE) at ɫ, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) offers affordable, short-term certificate programs—microcredentials taught by experienced industry professionals—that allow you to gain practical, real-world skills and earn university-issued credentials that recognize your achievements.

Upon completion of a program, you’ll receive credentials in multiple formats:

  • Print certificates and digital certificates that formally acknowledge your accomplishment
  • Verified digital badges that highlight the specific skills and competencies you’ve developed

You can share your digital credentials on LinkedIn, your resume, or in a professional portfolio—giving you a clear, trusted way to showcase your expertise.

What is a digital badge?

Sample BadgeBadges are “micro-credentials” that provide a digital award as proof of an accomplishment or completion of specific content or tasks.

Digital badges are clickable icons and can contain information about the issuing institution or entity, the date earned, the criteria required to earn the badge, and evidence of meeting the required criteria.

Badges can be shared on social media sites, added as a link in an email, embedded in an e-portfolio, and elsewhere.

In the CSUDH Canvas LMS (learning management system), a badge is awarded for successfully meeting the requirements to complete a specific course. Completion of all required courses in a pathway will result in the awarding of a digital and print Certificate of Completion.

Microcredentials, Certificates, Digital Badges, and Digital Credentials Explained

Microcredentials

Microcredentials represent short, focused learning experiences that help you upskill, reskill, and build targeted expertise to meet the demands of today’s rapidly changing industries. They’re designed to support professional advancement and provide measurable achievements—without the extended commitment of a full degree program.

Certificate

A certificate is a type of microcredential awarded after completing a structured, short-term program in a specific area of study. CCPE certificates are designed to help learners develop career-ready skills and demonstrate expertise in high-demand areas. While many organizations offer certificates, those from ɫ, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) are university-issued, providing formal recognition backed by an accredited institution. CSUDH certificates are available in print and digital formats, giving you flexible ways to showcase your accomplishments and highlight your skills.

Digital Badges

In addition to certificates, you can earn digital badges—verifiable online records that spotlight the specific skills and competencies you gained throughout your program pathway (the required courses to earn the certificate). Digital badges recognize your program pathway completion and the exact expertise you’ve developed.

ɫ, digital certificates and digital badges make up digital credentials. These portable, trusted recognitions of learning are designed to be visible and shareable, allowing you to feature your achievements on LinkedIn, your resume, or a professional portfolio—so your skills and accomplishments are seen and recognized where they matter most.

Digital Credentials: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between a certificate and a degree?

A certificate focuses on practical, job-ready skills in a specific field and is typically shorter in duration, while a degree provides a broader, in-depth education over several years. CSUDH certificates complement degrees or serve as stand-alone credentials for career advancement.

How can digital credentials improve my career prospects?

As you upskill or reskill, digital credentials clearly communicate the skills and competencies you’ve gained, making it easier for employers to see your expertise. They can be shared on LinkedIn, resumes, and portfolios to strengthen your professional visibility.

Are CSUDH certificates and digital badges recognized by employers?

Yes. CSUDH certificates are university-issued and carry the credibility of an accredited institution. Verified digital badges further validate your competencies, giving employers confidence in your skills.

Can I complete a program without applying to the university?

Absolutely... You can start earning credentials and building skills immediately! Most CSUDH CCPE certificate programs have open enrollment, so no formal university admission is required; however, please be aware that academic certificate programs like Cyber Security Fundamentals and the NCRP Dispute Resolution certificates have other requirements to get started.

Do all CCPE certificate programs award all types of credentials?

Upon completion, approved CCPE programs that do issue digital credentials award digital badges for each of the connected courses, plus a digital badge and printable digital certificate for the completion of the certificate pathway. Please review the program page of interest for details and to see the visual pathway.

I completed a CCPE certificate program a few years ago... Can I access digital badges for my program?

Yes, you can claim your earned digital badges if you successfully completed an approved CCPE certificate program in any term after Fall 2022. Please email abarton@csudh.edu for assistance.
