- Zero Waste Punch card -ÌýPick up a Punch Card at the Farmers Market or at our office (LIB 2514, Wednesdays 8–11am & 12–3pm) and get a punch each week for every reusable item you bring and earn entries for a chance to win prizes!
- Pop-Up Thrift- Visit our Pop-Up Thrift event every first Tuesday of the month at the Farmers Market on the East Walkway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We accept donations and give away thrifted clothes for free. Open to all students, faculty, and staff.Ìý
- Pop Up Thrift Storefront (LIB 2514): Be sure to visit our permanent Pop-Up Thrift Monday through Friday from 8am-11am and 12pm-3pm located in the Office of Sustainability LIB 2514. (Note: donations are not accepted at this location, but at the 24/7 donation bin).Ìý
- 24/7 Donation Bin- We have a 24/7 donation bin stationed outside NSM on the loading dock on the first floor (outside the IT-office). Drop off old clothes, shoes, and office supplies to help keep waste out of the landfill. All items will be redistributed at our pop-up thrift shop or donated to a local thrift store.

- Toro Token ProgramÌý– Purchase a Toro Token for a reusable container to use at Campus Dining locations. Then, exchange for another Toro Token to use for your next visit. Check theÌýToro Token Info FlyerÌýfor more information.
- Hydration Stations – Instead of buying a single-use plastic bottle, fill up your reusable bottle at one of our hydration stations available campus-wide on every water fountain, including the baseball and softball dugouts!
- Reusable Coffee Cup DiscountÌý – Bring your reusable cup or bottle to fill up at one our on-campus eateries and coffee shops to get a 10% discount on your purchase (select locations only).

- Request a ZW Presentation – Fill out this to request a presentation for your department/office.
- Request a Zero Waste Station or Deskside Bin InsertÌý– Contact Work Control at (310) 243-3587 or place an online work order to request a zero waste station in your hallway/office suite or a deskside bin for your office. Deskside bins in private/individual offices are the personal responsibility of the user and are no longer being serviced by Custodial. Staff and faculty are encouraged to discard waste directly into common area stations, which are serviced daily, instead of their deskside bins.
- Request Bin Servicing/Overflow/Move Out Services – Contact Work Control at (310) 243-3587 or place an online work order to request custodial service, pick-up of bulky items that can overflow a zero waste station, or any waste items that cannot be discarded in any of the three streams (e.g. e-waste, ink toners, etc.). Due to limited quantities, toters/cartsÌý requested for office clean-ups have a 7 day limit from drop-off to pick-up.
- Access the Toro Surplus Platform:ÌýVisit the and create an account using your CSUDH e-mail address an SSO log-in to begin listing or claiming surplus campus furniture and/ or office supplies. - CardboardÌý-ÌýCardboard recycling as well as battery and ink cartridges is available across campus for broken down boxes and is serviced by the Zero Waste Coordinator on a weekly basis. These stations can be found at the following locations:Ìý

- Printer Cartridge Recycling - Toner and ink jet cartridges may be recycled by placing used cartridges back in the original packaging (or in the package your new cartridge came in), or any plastic bag, and contacting Campus Work Control at (310) 243-3587 or via the online work order to arrange pick up. Printer cartridges/ toners may also be dropped off in yellow containers located next to any cardboard station.
- Electronic Waste (E-Waste) – All IT-branded assets must be received through Asset Management for recycling/disposal. When requesting your pick-up, you can also include for recycling non-IT small electronic assets such as office toasters, coffee makers, microwaves, etc. Download the Property Survey Form and contact Property Clerk Angel Garcia at x2376 for pick-up of these items.
- Personal (non-campus) IT items can be recycled through retailers and/or annually at our Earth Day Festival in April.ÌýÌý
- Hazardous/Universal Waste – Items such as lab waste, PCB/non-PCB ballasts, broken bulbs, and fluorescent lamps are considered hazardous waste and require special handling. Contact Campus Work Control at (310) 243-3587 or via the online work order form to request pick up. - Nitrile Gloves (Laboratories) - Glove recycling boxes are provided for CSUDH campus laboratories. Have your lab sign up for Green Lab Certification (see the Employee pop out above) to opt into this program.

- All campus bins offer options for Landfill, Recycling, and Compost. The quick guide below may also be used as a general reference:
Acceptable items that can go in the RECYCLING receptacle:
- Paper, including newspaper, envelopes, magazines, etc.
- Flattened cardboard
- Plastics #1, #2, and #5 including milk jugs, water/soda bottles, etc. – No plastic bags or film please!
- Aluminum/metal cans
- Glass bottles/food jars
- Shredded Paper
NOTE: Make sure all recyclables are free of food and liquid!
Acceptable items that can go in the LANDFILL receptacle:
- Plastic bags, wrappers, flexible packaging, etc.
- Plastic utensils and straws
- Styrofoam containers and packaging
- Stickers/address labels
- Plastic-lined and waxy cartons
NOTE: Try switching from single-use to reusable options when possible!
Acceptable items that can go in the COMPOST receptacle:
- Food scraps including fruits, veggies, breads, meats, bones, eggs, etc.
- 100% fiber based products soiled with food, such as pizza boxes, napkins, and wooden utensils
- Please NO bioplastic compostable eatware
State Compliance Requirements
Effective July 1, 2020, the university must also comply with state recycling and organics collections laws, including AB 2812 and SB 1833/AB 827. Under these two mandates, CSUDH is required to provide dedicated receptacles, signage, education, and services for trash, recycling, and organics (compost) streams. Visit the for more information.
Per AB 2048, the current franchise agreement for waste hauling for CSUDH is with American Reclaimation, and a copy of the agreement is available upon request.Ìý
