For those within a five-mile radius of campus, biking is highly recommended as a convenient and eco-friendly commuting option. Not only does biking reduce your carbon footprint, but it also provides numerous physical and mental health benefits, including:

CSUDH Rental Bike Program
At CSUDH, we are dedicated to encouraging biking as a convenient and eco-friendly commuting option. One of the ways we support this is through our free in-house bike rental program:
How to Reserve a Bike:
- Visit this page. Reserve your bike on the date and time you would like. If any bike is available, choose the duration of the rental, you can rent a bike up to 72 hours.
- Requirements: You鈥檒l need your Campus ID and must sign a liability waiver to complete the reservation, which will be sent to your email prior to your pick-up.聽
- Pick-Up Location: Collect your bike keys from the Parking Office window inside the Campus Police Station in WH-100. The rental bikes will be on the 1st floor of Welch Hall right next to the new bike repair station and bike racks.聽
New Micromobility Policy Proposal:
The Office of Sustainability is excited to introduce a new Micromobility Policy Proposal for our campus. This updated policy is designed to replace the old Bike Policy (available below this section on this page) and expand our support for various micromobility options, including bikes, electric bikes (e-bikes), skateboards, scooters, and more.
Why This Policy Matters:
This policy demonstrates our commitment to modernizing campus transportation and promoting sustainable commuting. By integrating dedicated micromobility zones (either on campus walkways or in dedicated dismount zones and campus roadways leading to the walkways depending on campus feedback), we aim to make alternative transportation methods more inclusive and encouraged.
The micromobility surveys have been completed throughout Fall 2024 and Fall 2025, and the findings have been analyzed and reviewed. The results are being finalized for presentation to Cabinet to inform potential revisions to the existing Bike Policy. Full findings are provided below:
Bike Policy
Bicycling and other wheeled transport (e.g. scooters, skateboards, rollerskates, etc.) are allowed on the public streetways of the CSUDH campus. However, per the Campus Bike Policy, they are not allowed on the pedestrian walkways and pedestrian sidewalks of the main campus core.
- Bicylces must be walked when on pedestrian thoroughfares.
- Bicycles must park in bike racks specifically designed for this purpose. Bicycles locked to trees, etc., may be impounded under the vehicle code.
- Bicycles are not permitted inside University buildings.
Bike Racks
CSUDH has over 50 bike rack spaces available across 19 bike racks on campus and a private bike storage cage for residents of the University dorms. A U-Lock is recommended to lock your bike to a bike rack at the same time as attaching a chain between the front tire and around the body of your bike for maximum security.

Bike Repair Station
Funded by a 2023 and a 2025 Toro Green Initiative Fund (T.G.I.F.) project, the self-operated bike repair stations on campus contains free tools for bike maintenance.
Located on the East Walkway, across from LSU and the 1st floor of Welch Hall.
Showers and Hygiene Concerns
There are two showers available to CSUDH students, staff, and faculty bicyclists on campus:
- I&I Building, room 1202
- Science & Innovation Building, room 308B
Both showers require key access which can be applied for through a key request through Facilities Services.
