Student Teacher Stipend Program (STSP)

Assembly Bill 121 established the Student Teacher Stipend Program, which begins in the 2026鈥�27 academic year. Under this program, the state of California provides funding to participating school districts so that they can award $10,000 stipends to student teachers completing their student teaching. The goal is to provide financial support to teacher candidates during their required clinical teaching experience.

Please note: applying for and distributing stipend funds is entirely the responsibility of the participating school district, not the College of Education. Candidates who are already participating in state-funded residencies, grants, internships, or short-term staffing permits are not eligible for this stipend.

The CSUDH College of Education is committed to partnering with school districts to expand financial support opportunities for student teacher candidates. We are in ongoing communication with our partner districts to help secure stipend funding for as many qualified candidates as possible.

While the College actively supports these efforts, districts are ultimately responsible for applying for state funding and issuing payments directly to candidates. Student teaching placements will continue to follow the College鈥檚 established placement protocols and will not be affected by whether the stipend funding is available.

Because districts can鈥檛 apply for stipend funding until after student placements are finalized, the College may not know which districts have received funding until after clinical experiences have already begun. For districts that are awarded funding, candidates should expect the approval and payment process to take 60 days or longer from the start of the student teaching assignment.
