COE Students Explore Innovation at CUE Conference & STEAM Symposium
For the second year in a row, our program proudly secured support from the CDE Foundation and Google to send 19 students from across departments to the CUE Conference and CA STEAM Symposium in Palm Springs. Through this opportunity, students received full coverage for registration, hotel, and travel, along with a $500 stipend, making this a first professional conference experience for many.
Liberal Studies and Teacher Education pre-service students immersed themselves in the CUE Conference & STEAM Symposium. Supported by scholarships from the Californians Dedicated to Education (CDE) Foundation and Google.org, students explored dynamic makerspaces, experimented with emerging AI tools, and participated in hands-on, interactive sessions. These experiences offered a powerful glimpse into how innovation and technology are transforming today鈥檚 classrooms.
As one student shared, 鈥淭his experience opened my eyes to what鈥檚 possible in the classroom. I left feeling inspired, more confident, and excited to bring creativity and new technology into my future teaching.鈥
Breakout session themes included
- STEAM: Building Skill, Spark, and Confidence
- AI in Real Life: Teaching, Learning, and Leading with Intelligence
- Curriculum in Action: Innovating Instruction for Today鈥檚 Learners
- Digital Decisions: Building Smarter Systems That Serve Learning
- Mindful Tech: Wellness, Connection, and Digital Balance
- Leading for Tomorrow: Transforming Schools, Systems, and Learning
Beyond the sessions, students also connected with fellow pre-service teachers from across California during a networking event hosted by the scholarship sponsors鈥攂uilding relationships that will extend into their future careers.
The CSUDH cohort was led and chaperoned by Ashley Ruiz, Liberal Studies faculty member and Director of Partnerships & Grants for the Snap Inc. Institute for Technology & Education (SITE). Under her leadership, students returned energized and inspired, equipped with fresh ideas and a deeper sense of purpose.
