CSUDH Partners with City of Carson to Spark STEM Futures for Local Students

SITE STEM

From mid-June through early August, the Snap Inc. Institute for Technology & Education (SITE) partnered with the City of Carson Parks and Recreation Department to host Project CODER鈥攁 dynamic STEM camp for students ages 7鈥12. More than 115 campers took part, with Level 1 designed for first-time participants and Level 2 for returning students.

鈥淧roject CODER is all about opening doors for young learners,鈥 said Mike Karlin, Director of SITE. 鈥淏y introducing students to coding, robotics, and problem-solving at such an early age, we鈥檙e helping them see themselves as future innovators.鈥

Using Bee-Bot and Dash robots, campers explored computer science concepts, practiced computational thinking, and gained hands-on experience with block-based coding through fun, interactive challenges.

Thanks to the leadership of SITE Director of Partnerships and Grants, Ashley Ruiz, the program concluded with a CSUDH campus tour and a showcase event where students proudly presented their projects to more than 100 family and community members.

鈥淭he excitement and confidence they showed while sharing their projects with family and community members is exactly why we do this work,鈥 said Ruiz.
