Program Overview

What is Professional Fundraising?

The profession of raising resources for non-profit organizations to fund their mission and vision activities.

Fundraisers can be paid or volunteer. What makes them professional is doing their work following best practices and using proven techniques and strategies that enhance results and build relationships that last.

This program will train, educate, equip people on all levels who want to better understand the process of successful fundraising so that upon completion the practitioner will be confident in their planning and execution of a good fundraising plan.

Do I need to be admitted to the University before registering for a course? Is there an application process?

There is no application process or prerequisites for the program.

How do I register?

To register, use the shopping cart in the course schedule.

Is there a particular order in which the courses must be taken?

BPX 913 (Introduction to Fundraising) must be completed before all other courses — we strongly recommend courses be completed in numerical order, to take best advantage of material flow.

How much time does a student need to finish the program?

Students can complete the entire certificate program in as little as three (3) months.

Is there homework and/or a final project?

Yes. Each course in the series includes homework, which typically consists of three assignments plus recommended readings. The instructor will outline what needs to be completed before the next session, and the following class session will include a discussion based on those assignments. In addition to the weekly homework, participants work throughout the series on a major project: developing an integrated fundraising plan. During the final class of the last course, everyone presents their fundraising plan, and the group engages in feedback and discussion.

Will I learn practical skills I can use at my non-profit?

Yes. Every session is designed to give you actionable guidance you can take back to your nonprofit the very next day! Each class in the series focuses on practical, immediately usable fundraising skills. You’ll learn how to identify foundations that may fund your organization, how to set up a Facebook fundraiser step-by-step, and other hands-on techniques you can apply right away. Participants often comment on how simple and helpful these tools are.

Is this program a good fit for someone working in a small non-profit?

Yes. Most participants come from smaller nonprofits or are preparing to join one. The series is designed to offer practical, manageable strategies you can use even if you’re handling everything on your own.

Do I need to work at a large non-profit to benefit from this program?

No. The guidance applies to organizations of all sizes—from a one-person operation to a large nonprofit with multiple staff. The instructor brings experience from both environments, ensuring the content is useful no matter your team or resources.
