Housing Support

Housing Support

We understand that housing challenges can come up suddenly and be incredibly stressful. If you're experiencing an unexpected and immediate change in your living situation, we're here to support you.

• Short-term emergency housing, up to 14 days of support with mandatory weekly check-ins to implement referrals to local shelter.
• Eviction avoidance grants for students who received a 3-day notice or eviction notice.
• Deposit or first-month rent grants are available for students who are experiencing homelessness and have located housing. Documentation from the landlord of move-in costs is required.
• Temporary housing is limited and prioritized for our most vulnerable students who have exhausted all other housing options. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eligibility for Short Term Housing

• Be a CSUDH student enrolled in the current semester with at least 3 units
• Be able to demonstrate an unexpected housing or financial crisis affecting academic performance or enrollment (Supporting documentation is helpful where appropriate)

Examples of qualifying emergencies for housing support include:

• Currently living in a car, park, abandoned building, or any place not meant for housing (e.g., bus or train station).
• Sleeping in areas not safe or suitable for people to live in (like park benches or stairwells).
• Leaving your home due to domestic violence, threats, or serious safety concerns.
• Losing your home because of a natural disaster (like a fire, flood, or earthquake).
• Being evicted or otherwise forced to leave your current housing.

In need of short-term housing?

The short-term emergency housing assistance program offers temporary accommodation for students facing housing instability, displacement, or homelessness. This initiative ensures the safety of students and provides them with time to secure long-term housing.

This temporary accommodation is available for up to 14 days and is provided at no charge to the student. If you find yourself homeless or displaced and require short-term accommodation, please reach out to the Toro CARE team or fill out our intake form.
