Admission Requirements

  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 in an undergraduate Accounting degree.
    • Applicants without an accounting degree major may apply after completing one of two options:
      1. Complete an program at CSUDH or other institution OR
      2. Complete the following undergraduate courses at CSUDH or their equivalents at another institution:

*To take the prerequisite courses, first contact the College of Business and Public Policy at busgrad@csudh.edu or 310-243-3646 to determine which classes to take. Once you know which courses to take, contact the CSUDH College of Continuing and Professional Education Registration Office at 310-243-3741 (Option 1). Visiting students may enroll in these courses once the semester has started. Be prepared to have instructor consent for Registration Services to enroll you in the course(s) you wish to take.

  • Statement of Purpose detailing your background, career path, professional interests, and how you plan to use your degree. Upload your statement of purpose in Cal State Apply application portal.
  • Resume or CV showing full time work experience. Upload your resume or CV in Cal State Apply application portal.”
  • If applicant's GPA falls below the minimum requirements: two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references are required. Send letters to busgrad@csudh.edu.

Anyone applying after the Program Application Deadline may not receive financial aid by the tuition payment deadline.

  • International Applicants Only: Attain a minimum score of 550 paper-based, 213 CBT or 80 IBT on the Test of English as a Foreign Language () test OR attain a minimum score of 6.5 overall on the International English Testing System () test. The TOEFL or the ILETS is required for all applicants who have received all, or a significant portion, of their education in a language other than English.   • Note: the Application Fee is $70. No fee waivers are given for this fee.

MS Accounting Application Filing Dates

Applicants should have theirapplications complete and all official transcripts submitted to University Admissions by theUniversitydeadline date.

Deadlines listed on Cal State Apply may be different than the deadlines noted below. We cannot guarantee that applications/documents submitted after the Program deadlines will be processed prior to the start of the semester. Hence, applicants must consider our internal application processing timeline and are strongly encouraged to meet the Program deadline listed below.

Steps to Apply

  2. Upload your statement of purpose detailing your interest in and readiness for the program to Cal State Apply application portal.
  3. Upload your current professional résumé or CV, which will be used to evaluate the applicant's professional experience, to Cal State Apply application portal. See template above.
  4. Submit one (1) official transcript from each college and/or university attended (note: if you graduated from CSUDH with a bachelor's degree, you do not need to submit transcripts). Transcript(s) should be sent electronically from the issuing institution to our Office of Admissions and Records tograduateadmissions@csudh.edu, or to send by mail, please use:

  5. If the applicant's GPA falls below the minimum requirements, two letters of recommendation (recommendation form) from academic or professional references are required. Please email them to busgrad@csudh.edu.

International Applicants Only

Regardless of citizenship, all applicants whose native language is not English and who do not qualify for a waiver are required to submit proof of English Language Proficiency before an admissions decision can be made. International applicants must submit:

  1. Certified English translations of non-English transcripts must be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records.Students from foreign institutions must have their transcripts evaluated by aNACESagency, such asWES, and submit a course-by-course evaluation.
  2. TOEFL/IELTS score (if required) must be sent directly from the appropriate testing organization to the Office of Admissions and Records. Graduate applicants who have not attended schools at the secondary level or above for at least three years full-time where English is the principle language of instruction must present one of the following:
    1. A minimum score of 80 on the internet-based TOEFL exam (iBT),
    2. A minimum score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL exam
    3. A score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test, or
    4. A score of 105 or higher on the Duolingo English Test (DET). The MA in English program requires a minimum score of 120
    5. A score of 53 or higher on thePearson Test of English (PTE) Academic

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The deadlines listed above are final deadlines and should viewed as such. Applicants generally receive an admissions decision 4-6 weeks after all documents have been received.
Financial Aid

Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid administers financial assistance programs to assist students in financing their educational costs. Costs of attendance should not be confused with tuition costs. The Office of Financial Aid budgets expenses related to pursuing the degree taking into consideration items such as housing, textbooks, etc. Theis available to eligible graduate students to finance the costs of attendance in the MPA program. State University Grants are awarded to students who submitted their FAFSA byMarch 2demonstrating financial need. State University Grants are given to only on-campus MPA students.

Financial aid disbursements for eligible students will be processed according to the Office of Financial Aid schedule. The Office of Financial Aid disburses funds according to the University academic calendar and timeliness of financial aid document submission. Please note that the program's academic calendar and the University academic calendar is the same. Students can accept partial amounts of financial aid if desired. Students must minimally enroll in six (6) units per semester to be eligible for financial aid.

How many classes arerequiredin the MS in AccountingProgram?

The MS in Accounting program requires the completion of 10 courses (30 units total). The curriculum includes a combination of core accounting courses and advanced topics designed to strengthen technical knowledge, analytical skills, and preparation for professional certification such as the CPA exam.

How long will it take to complete the program?

This 18-month program is designed for working professionals seeking to complete the degree in a timely manner.

Is theMS in AccountingProgramaccredited?

CSUDH's business programs are accredited by the .ɫ, Dominguez Hills is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

What is the tuition for theMS in AccountingProgram?

In partnership with the College of Continuing and Professional Education, the program tuition costs are based per unit at $725. The approximate tuition cost is $22,000. 

I am an employeeofɫ. Is the tuition fee waiver applicable to this program?

TheMS in AccountingProgramis not a state funded program and is not eligible for fee waiver.

What are acceptable methods for payment of tuition?

The CSUDH College of Continuing & Professional Education (CCPE) manages the registration and tuition payments. Students can pay through the or contact the CSUDH CCPE Registration Office.

Is financial aid available?

Financial aid is available in the form of federal loans.  For official information about what sorts of financial aid might apply and the forms that must be filed, visit the Financial Aid website.  Be sure toidentifyin the subject line which program you are inquiring. For example,MS in Accountingstudents shouldindicate"MS in Accounting" in the subject heading. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that their financial aid is in order.

What is the refund policy?

The refund policy is set by the CSUDH CCPE policies.

What is the format of classes in the MS in Accounting program?

The program follows a structured hybrid model, where classes rotate between in-person and online instruction. Typically, students attend class oncampusone week and complete coursework online the following week. This alternating schedule continues throughout the semester.

Can coursework be transferred to theMS in AccountingProgram?

A maximum of threeMS in Accountingclasses (9 units) may be transferred from an accredited institution with approval from theMS in AccountingProgram Director. The grade(s) received and the institution where the course(s) were taken will be considered in making this determination.  Requests for transferring in units need to be made to theMS in AccountingCoordinator during the application process - not after a student has begun the program.

What is the application procedure?

Apply on  and have official transcripts from ALLpreviousinstitutions sent directly from the college(s) you attended to the Office of Admissions and Records.  They will give your applicationan initialreview andforwardthe transcripts and a summary of your application to the MPA office.

Do I need to take the TOEFL?

All graduate applicants who have not attended schools at the secondary level or above for at least three years full time where English is the principal language of instruction and/or attend a foreign institution where English is the official language of instruction must demonstrate English competency. Graduate applicants must submit a score of 550 on the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) paper exam or 80 on the TOEFL internet-based exam. TOEFL score (if required) should be sent directly from  to the Admissions and Records Office. Applicants may also take the IELTS exam and achieve an overall score of 6.5.
