MSCS Students CSC 311 Placement Test

It is required by the program curriculum that everyone needs to complete CSC311 (Data Structures) as a prerequisite to the program, no matter whether you have taken this course before. However, for those who have already possessed the knowledge of data structures, the department offers a Placement Test. If you take and pass the test, you can be waived of CSC311. Otherwise, you should enroll in a CSC311 section.

This semester, the CSC311 Placement Test will be held on January 16, 2025, Thursday, from 10am to 12pm on Canvas. The test questions consist of two parts: theoretical questions and programming questions. The first part will test your knowledge on concepts of various data structures and their operations and characteristics, including stacks, queues, lists, priority queues, heaps, hash tables, trees, and graphs. The second part will test your skills of programming on data structures and applications.

If you are interested in taking the placement test, please click the following link to self-enroll into the test:

Each student only has one chance to take this test. If you took it before and failed, you cannot retake it, but need to enroll in a CSC311 session.
