We are pleased that you are interested in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Our Department is located in the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences (CNBS) on the beautiful campus of ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Dominguez Hills (home of the and the ). We offer two Bachelor of Science degrees: one in Chemistry and one in Biochemistry. Our BS in Chemistry is approved by the (ACS) which is reflected on the diplomas of our graduates. We also offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry with options in either Chemistry or Biochemistry. We pride ourselves on our small classes, one-on-one professor/student interactions, and most importantly, the research opportunities that we offer our students. Here you will have a chance to become involved in undergraduate research working on projects spanning theoretical and experimental applications of chemistry to advancements in materials, therapeutics, and chemical education. Whether you are interested in understanding chemical processes from a molecular level, using advanced spectroscopy methods to study molecular structures and interactions, gaining experience in advanced synthesis methods and instrument development, or understanding the effects of innovative teaching methods on student learning experiences – there are faculty-mentored research opportunities in our department for you.
Many of our graduates go on to pursue PhD and MS programs at top graduate programs such as: University of California Los Angeles, University of California Irvine, University of California Santa Cruz, Oregon State University, University of Mississippi, Georgia Tech University, The Ohio State University, University of North Carolina, and University of Texas Southwestern. Others are now in dental or pharmacy school and still others are working in industry and for the government. We have a wide range of opportunities to offer our students and we have a sustained record of placing students in professional and graduate programs. If you are a motivated student with a dream, this is the place and we can help you make it happen. We hope to see you in the upcoming semester.
