The Center for the African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians (CADSMM) is both a national hub and the world鈥檚 preeminent site for the collection, coordination, dissemination, performance, archiving, and promotion of research on sacred music of the African Diaspora. CADSMM operates as a unit of the College of Arts and Humanities and, in partnership with the University Library, is domiciled on the 好色先生, Dominguez Hills campus. CADSMM provides a dedicated platform for African and African American musicians, scholars, music educators, internal and external community partners, and collaborators who are committed to the documentation and advancement of African sacred music research and performance. Included in CADSMM鈥檚 multidimensional program are the Arican Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians Collection, the Georgia and Nolan Payton Distinguished Lecture in African Sacred Music, the Concert and Lecture Series, and the African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians Network and Forum. In addition, CADSMM is committed to hosting various other academic symposia, workshops, and performances. The center regularly invites and hosts leading scholars and practitioners of African sacred music, which encompasses genres of African music that are dedicated to a religious purpose. Internally, CADSMM offers a space for faculty members to network with colleagues and potential collaborators on external grants and projects to advance the study of African sacred music and musicians in Africa and the African Diaspora.
