About the B.S. in Business Administration

The College of Business Administration & Public Policy's (CBAPP) Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program is designed to accomplish two objectives. The first of these is to prepare students for lifelong professional careers in commerce, finance and industry, as well as for management careers in the public and not-for-profit sectors. The second objective is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to obtain professional, entry-level positions in one functional area or particular field of business. Students in the Business Administration program will select one of the concentrations noted below. A minor is not required for the degree, but students are welcome to pursue a minor to supplement their studies.

Scheduling

CSUDH follows a semester system with courses scheduled during fall and spring. Some courses may be offered during summer for optional enrollment. Business courses are offered through day, evening, online, and hybrid formats. Students have the flexibility to choose the course, time, and modality that meets their needs.听

Academic Support

Admitted students are provided with a degree plan used to track course completion until graduation. Advisors are available to assist students in-person or online with scheduling and registration via the Student Success Center. The Internship Advisor works directly with employers and public agencies to bring opportunities to students; she meets with students in-person and online regarding internship and job opportunities. Faculty and Department Chairs are available to work with students on discipline-focused improvement, career guidance, and mentorship.

Degree Requirements

The undergraduate Business Administration program requires completion of all lower division Business Administration core courses with minimum grades of 鈥淐鈥. Upper division advanced and concentration courses are available only to declared Business Administration majors.

Program Learning Outcomes

The Business Program Learning Outcomes are aligned with CSUDH Undergraduate Institutional Learning Outcomes. Upon completion of the B.S. in Business Administration, students should be able to:

  1. Communication: to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to,
    • Describe the communication process and explain how non-verbal behavior and listening affect communication.
    • Analyze and synthesize information by clearly writing solution or recommendations to a business challenge that are logical and are appropriately justified.
    • Apply the skills of critical analysis in the strategic management context, including identifying the strategic problems of a firm, generating and evaluating alternative courses of action, articulating and defending recommendations, and planning implementation.
  2. Critical Thinking: to solve problems using the applicable analytical and quantitative techniques. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
    • Identify relevant issues, generate and compare alternatives, and develop a sound solution.
  3. Globalization: to understand the interconnections of the global economy. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to,

  5. Ethics: to identify and evaluate ethical issues in the business world, and address solution alternatives in their context. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to,
    • Understand that ethics is tied to cultural norms and religious beliefs and also understand the laws and regulations that affect business.
    • Analyze social responsibility and ethical decision-making situations.
    • Apply ethical frameworks in making business decisions.
  6. Functional Knowledge: to demonstrate competency in the business-related content areas, including accountancy, economics, finance, law, management, information systems, marketing, statistics, operations management, globalization, and ethics.

Facilities

Courses are primarily taught in the new Innovation & Instruction Building located at the front of the CSUDH campus. The building has numerous open lounge seating areas, reservable student study breakout rooms, new classrooms, the CBAPP Investment Lab, the for entrepreneurs and help with business start-up, the Student Success Center which provides student advisement services, and the coffee shop. The campus is equipped with free Wi-Fi for students, and virtual and in-person technical support.

The College has two one is used in the classroom for instruction, and the other terminal is used outside the classroom by faculty and students who want additional experience or to earn their certificate. Thanks to a generous donor, we are able to provide this service free to CBAPP students. The Bloomberg Terminal is a powerful software platform used by finance professionals for accessing real-time financial data, news, analytics, and trading tools. It offers a wide range of features, including market analysis, portfolio management, and economic data, making it essential for investment banking, asset management, and trading.听
