Biography

Dr. Christopher Hallenbrook is Associate Professor of Political Science and L.G. Chaffee Endowed Chair of Global and Comparative Politics at 好色先生, Dominguez Hills. His research focuses on political theory, the history of political thought, intergenerational justice, political obligation, and public policy. His recent book, Justice Across Generations, develops a theory of intergenerational justice and applies it to issues including education, the responsible development of artificial intelligence, the national debt, and race.

His previous work applies political theory to public policy questions involving gun control and global climate change. He also studies political obligation in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Anglo-American political thought, with particular attention to the origins of political obedience, the dissolution of state authority, and the political philosophy of Thomas Hobbes.

These themes connect his research and teaching. In POL 371, Conflict, Violence, Nonviolence and Peace, students examine political theories of violence, resistance, and obligation alongside empirical research on civil war, genocide, terrorism, coups, and revolutions. The course combines political theory, comparative politics, and international relations to explore the causes and prevention of political violence.

Since becoming the L.G. Chaffee Endowed Chair of Global and Comparative Politics in August 2025, Professor Hallenbrook has worked to expand student learning opportunities in global politics through international travel, campus speakers, field trips to consulates, and other experiential learning activities.

Professor Hallenbrook also frequently facilitates and comments on U.S. politics. He served as a panelist questioning candidates in a WVIA congressional debate for Pennsylvania's 9th District in 2018 and has moderated candidate forums in Carson, California, since 2022. He has provided expert interviews to Los Angeles Times, KNX Radio, KFI AM 640, FOX56 WOLF, Spectrum News 1 SoCal, and California News Service.
