Academic Advising

Get the Guidance and Support You Need to Succeed

Political Science students have access to several advising resources. The appropriate advisor depends on the type of assistance you need. Students are encouraged to seek advising early and regularly to remain on track for graduation and make informed academic and career decisions.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Your assigned Political Science faculty advisor should be your first point of contact for questions about major courses, academic planning, internships, career preparation, and graduate study. For General Education, graduation, registration, and other university requirements, contact the CNBS Student Success Center.

Advising and Student Support

1. Your Assigned Faculty Advisor

Every Political Science major is assigned a faculty advisor who provides major-specific academic and professional guidance.

Your faculty advisor can assist you with:

  • Political Science course selection and sequencing
  • Planning progress through the major requirements
  • Selecting courses before registration
  • Career exploration and professional preparation
  • Internship opportunities
  • Graduate school and law school preparation
  • Academic and professional mentoring

Newly admitted and newly declared Political Science majors receive an email at the beginning of each semester identifying their assigned faculty advisor.

Check your CSUDH email carefully to confirm who your assigned advisor is.

Contact your faculty advisor directly by email to request an appointment. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their assigned faculty advisor at least once each semester.
