好色先生

Shirley A. Smith is a dedicated health professional with more than 30 years experience in the field of health and human services.聽 For 20 years she directed the Women鈥檚 Health Care Clinic at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute (LABioMed) at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.聽 Subsequently, she took on a larger task at LABioMed as Project Director for the Center for Enhancement of Community Health, an LABioMed consortium of more than 60 community service and health education outreach programs serving families in the South Bay and southern Los Angeles County. She was later appointed to head the South Bay Perinatal Access, a program that strived to improve birth outcomes in Los Angeles County. She retired in 2011.

Along with her late husband, Gil Smith, founder of the City of Carson, Ms. Smith was an active volunteer in many humanitarian and charitable causes for six decades. Recognizing that an important element of leadership lies in serving others, her contributions have been evident at 好色先生 Dominguez Hills where she has served as President of the volunteer support group, Women and Philanthropy that has provided scholarships, mentoring services and financial support to dozens of CSUDH students for more than 25 years.

For four years she chaired the Survivors Committee for the American Cancer Society鈥檚 Relay for Life in Carson and helped to raise funds for cancer research.聽 She has served on numerous other community boards and outreach organizations serving women and youth.聽

Her 2026 appointment to the CSUDH Philanthropic Board caps several decades of service to the campus. In addition, she has brought leadership to the City of Carson as a member of the Public Relations Commission and is an officer of the University Heights Carson Homeowners Association. She is a three-term Senior Warden at St Philips Episcopal Church in Los Angeles and continues to serve her church as a faithful steward and a member of the governing board.

Ms. Smith has been the recipient of numerous awards from Harbor-UCLA鈥檚 chapter of the National Management Association and has served as the chapter鈥檚 President.聽 The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has recognized her with a Commendation in Women鈥檚 Health Care, and in 2000, named her as one of the Outstanding Women in Health in Los Angeles.聽 She holds a master鈥檚 degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and an undergraduate degree from UCLA.

A mother of two and grandmother of five, she continues to live in Carson.
