Overview
Earth Sciences | Marine Environments | Environmental Geology | Scientific Literacy
Dr. Ewa Burchard is a member of the Department of Earth Sciences at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú, Dominguez Hills, where she teaches Earth Sciences and contributes to curriculum development in marine science, environmental geology, natural hazards, and scientific literacy. She also teaches Marine Environments and Physical Geology at other institutions of higher education. Her professional background integrates university instruction with applied geoscience practice.
She served as a Teaching Fellow in the MAT Earth Sciences Teaching Residency at the American Museum of Natural History (2013–2014) and was a Fellow at Claremont Graduate University (2016–2022). Prior to joining CSUDH, she had ten years of teaching experience at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú, Long Beach, and ten years of professional experience as a Professional Geologist at AECOM, working in environmental analysis and groundwater investigations.
Dr. Burchard currently serves on the Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (RSCA) Awards Program Committee and the University Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee (USLOAC), supporting university-wide research initiatives and institutional assessment of student learning outcomes.

Research Interests
Dr. Burchard's academic background includes work in marine environments, groundwater systems, and climate-related processes supported by quantitative environmental analysis and systems-based approaches. Her scholarly interests focus on science literacy and scientific literacy in higher education, particularly the development of scientific reasoning, evidence-based argumentation, and systems thinking in the geosciences. She is interested in strengthening student learning through the integration of environmental science content knowledge, quantitative reasoning, and institutional assessment practices.
