Respect My Crown: The Rise of African American Women in California Politics (2024) is a feature-length documentary highlighting 170 years of Black women leaders who transformed California politics, from grassroots activism to the highest levels of office. Featuring voices like Kamala Harris, Shirley Weber, Barbara Lee, Karen Bass, and Holly Mitchell, the film captures their resilience and legacy. The Mervyn M. Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute served as Executive Producer, supporting the film as part of its archival and historical recovery initiative.

Legend is a powerful documentary directed by Ryan Polomski and produced by Dean Prator and Kamilah Lewis, chronicling the legendary鈥攂ut often overlooked鈥攂asketball phenomenon from Watts whose on-court brilliance never translated into an NBA career. The Mervyn Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute (MDAAPEI), under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Samad, supported the filmmakers with a grant as part of a historical recovery project initiative

THE FIRST OF HIS KIND: This documentary chronicles the extraordinary public service career of Mervyn M. Dymally, California's first Black lieutenant governor and later a respected congressman鈥攈ighlighting his roles in the state legislature, statewide office, and the U.S. House of Representatives. The film premiered at the Pan African Film Festival in February 2019, co-produced by the Mervyn M. Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute (MDAAPEI) at CSU Dominguez Hills as part of its Historical Archive Recovery Project.聽
