Minor in Early Childhood Development and Education

Minor in Early Childhood Development and Education (24 units)聽聽

The Minor in Early Childhood Development and Education is designed for non-CDV major students who are interested in becoming a teacher in early childhood education settings (e.g., preschools and elementary schools). The minor will provide undergraduate students with foundational, theoretical, and applied knowledge necessary for understanding and supporting children鈥檚 early development and learning in a variety of early childhood settings. This minor also provides students with coursework to prepare for the Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and/or to provide subject matter for the PK-3 Early Childhood Education (ECE) Specialist Instruction Credential.聽聽

All Child Development courses applied to the Minor in Early Childhood Development and Education must be passed with a grade of "C" or better.

CDV 480 聽 聽 Practicum in Early Childhood Education (3) - Prerequisites: CDV 220, CDV 240, CDV 260, and CDV 325; Recommended Prerequisite: CDV 462

Students enrolled in the Minor in Early Childhood Development and Education program may take CDV 363, CDV 430, and CDV 462 after they have completed CDV 325. Minors in ECDE may request permission numbers for these courses from the Child Development Department to override any remaining prerequisites.

Students pursuing a PK-3聽ECE Specialist Instruction聽credential at CSUDH should not take CDV 363. Enroll in one of the following courses instead of CDV 363:聽CDV 330, CDV 342, CDV 344, CDV 366, or CDV 380.

To earn a PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential, students must apply for the PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential program after completing the Bachelor鈥檚 degree. See more information about the CSUDH PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential Program.
