Hot Work Program

Purpose

Hot work is described as any task involving open flames, heat, or sparks that has the potential to cause fire or explosions. Types of work commonly performed include welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, grinding and arc welding.聽 CSUDH has established this Hot Work Program to protect the safety of CSUDH employees. All hot work procedures and designated areas for hot work operations are expected to comply with the requirements of Tile 8 of California's Code of Regulations as well as the California Fire Code.聽

Employees and students who perform hot work (or are present in areas where hot work is conducted) must follow the procedures outlined in this program. This most often includes maintenance and trade shops, the university theatre shop, and students who conduct hot work in laboratories, workshops, or performance facilities.
