COE Credential Students: Bilingual Authorization in Spanish

The Bilingual Authorization in Spanish program is designed for CSUDH COE credential students to complete the Bilingual Authorization and their credential requirements simultaneously. This program centers justice and equity teaching approaches in inclusive bilingual and multilingual PK–12 classrooms. Courses are offered in Spanish with heritage language pedagogical approaches.

This program supports educators in developing expertise in translanguaging, biliteracy, and multilingualism through culturally and linguistically affirming pedagogy. Students will gain hands-on experience in Spanish Dual Language and Bilingual classrooms in nearby school districts with highly effective bilingual and multilingual mentor teachers.

Available to all COE credential programs, including: PK3-ECE credential, Multiple Subject, Single Subject, & Education Specialists. Credential students may complete this program as student teachers, university interns, and residents.

  • PK-3 Credential: SPE 482-07 (Fall only)
  • Single Subject Credential: SPE 482-08 (Fall only) 
  • Multiple Subject Credential:SPE 482-07, TED 433-07, & TED 403-07(Fall only) and TED 410-07 (Spring only)

  • The required courses SPA 280 and SPA 341 may be waived by passing the CSET Spanish III; equivalent coursework from a 4-year university; or a CSUDH Subject Verification for World Languages in Spanish.
  • TED 439 and TED 440 are offered once a year in the Spring semester.
  • The dual language or bilingual practicum experience is available for student teachers, university interns, and teacher residents and will be discussed during individual advising meetings and TED 439.
  • The -07 and -08 sections are reserved for BILA students. These courses are recommended for BILA students but not required.
Application for Bilingual Authorization Verification Letter

Upon completion of the Bilingual Authorization program, students will submit evidence to the COE Verification Form - Bilingual Authorization Requirements via Qualtrics:

The Bilingual Authorization Coordinator will review the evidence and issue the Bilingual Authorization Verification Letter by email to the student's Toromail account.

When students receive the BILA Verification letter from the BILA coordinator and are ready to apply for the preliminary credential, they will submit the letter along with all of the requirements for the credential to the COE preliminary credential request.
