Resolution on Syllabi Procedures and Syllabi Expectations

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of 好色先生, Dominguez Hills (AS CSUDH) recommend that faculty adhere to the subsequent guidelines, which supersede AA Policy 15-03 when developing course syllabi; and be it further

RESOLVED: During the first week of classes an instructor will distribute the course syllabus (electronically or physically) or post onto learning management system. Course information shall include at a minimum the following [1] and be geared to provide students with clarity about your class:

  1. Course title and instructor.
  2. The availability of the instructor outside of the class, including office hours, office location, office telephone number and email address.
  3. Prerequisites/co-requisites for the course.
  4. Course description including both catalog description and the unit value.
  5. Explicit notation of course modality and location of time of class meetings [2][3]
  6. Student learning outcomes for the course.
  7. Required texts and other materials.
  8. Required computer software/hardware capabilities.
  9. Computer literacy skill expectations for students enrolled in the course.
  10. AI statement specifying which AI tools if any are prohibited/permitted, and how AI use should be disclosed if relevant.
  11. Departmental Student Conduct/Dispositions when appropriate
  12. A tentative/planned schedule of class meetings and topics
  13. Policy on attendance, assignment due dates and submission of late work and missed exams. (See [2] [3])
  14. The instructor's grading policy including grading scale and weighted value of assignments/tests.
  15. Course requirements, including reading and assignments, exams and other types of assessments of student work.
  16. A schedule of all assignment due dates and examinations.
  17. If extra credit is offered, there should be a clear policy outlining its use, including a statement that it is available to all students.

RESOLVED: That at the start of the semester/session the following syllabi requirements will be automatically populated, with no action required by faculty-- on the learning management system and include the following items: 听Click or tap here to enter text.

  1. Welcome statement and updated each semester and/ session
  2. Link to Inclusive Excellence Statement (hyperlink to university approved statement)
  3. Antidiscrimination Statement (link to university statement)
  4. Link to University Academic Calendar
  5. Student Resources Link to existing webpage (not an exhaustive list)
    1. Toro Care
    2. Student DisAbility Resources:
    3. Pregnant and Parenting Students Statement
    4. Affinity Centers
    5. Health and Wellness
    6. Immigration
  1. Emergency Preparedness
  2. A statement that clarifies behavior expectations, as well as the consequences of disrespectful or disruptive behavior.
  3. A specific reference to the University Catalog's statement regarding Academic Integrity and plagiarism expectations including considerations for AI use.
  4. AI University Statement
  5. Office of Undergraduate Studies
  6. Graduate Studies and Research
  7. University anti-discrimination Statement
  8. Optional Syllabus Quiz; and be it further,

RESOLVED: That the ASCSUDH distribute this resolution to: President of CSUDH, Provost, Deans, AVP Faculty Affairs and Development, and Faculty.

RATIONALE: Individual course syllabi are necessary for aiding both the students' understanding and achievement of the learning outcomes and specific course information. A university or central place where updated information is monitored centrally not only reduces workload for all faculty but ensures accuracy for students.
